I have a Nokia phone and bought a USB cable to download photos from my phone to my computer. The first time i used it i managed to download then - i don't know how.

I have attached my cable again to download more images BUT i can't seem to do it.

The computer says it has to up/download the hardware which it says it has done.

The question is now what do i do?

So, when i attach the cable to my phone it asks which USB cable mode i want:
Default mode
Data Storage

When i press data storage it comes up with 'Transfering data'

Then the icons come up on my PC, i click on 'upload with Lexmark' (which is what i have for pictures) and nothing happens

Help please

Ps i know i have this software on my PC, the other thing that happens is that it asks to install it each time. I am going a bit bonkers with it....

Use bluetooth - it's much less faffing about.

have you tried going into my computer and seeing if it recognises it as another drive?

TeaDr1nker Tue 12-Aug-08 18:47:43

My computer does not have bluetooth, i have tried.

How about locating the software on your PC, double clicking it and see what happens?

What type of Nokia handset is it? Tried to do it with N95 which was successful the first attempt but not since.

I managed to do it on mine by removing the memory card and putting it in a slot in my laptop.

New pone has no removable memory card though. So could be tricky!

How do you do it with bluetooth? In words of one syllable please!

bev1e Tue 12-Aug-08 19:06:09

Switch bluetooth on your phone on, switch bluetooth on your pc/mac on, they detect one another and you follow instructions on phone to start communicating.

on my N95 I just connect it click PC Suite (I think it is?) and then it automatically opens the Adobe Photoshop Album whatsit that came on the disk with all the various software bits for the computer and upload using that.

bev- sounds simple but any suggestions on where I might find bluetooth on my laptop. I assume it is different from 'wireless' which is on?

I did say I needed words of 1 syllable!

Have managed to switch it on on fone.

Sorry for hijack - very rude of me.blush

TeaDr1nker Tue 12-Aug-08 19:43:05

No not hijacking, i would also like to know where to locate bluetooth on the PC.

desperatehousewifetoo Tue 12-Aug-08 20:10:08

Nope have searched to find out what to do.

Says go to control panel and click on 'bluetooth devices'.

Can't find that in control panel! Lots of blardy 'setup wizards' tho. Help and support doesn't mention them.

Ooh, I hate computers. They just don't make sense to me!

Bluetooth is located on PC by clicking Start, Control Panel, Hardware & Sound and then clicking Bluetooth Devices.

I would suspect that if you do not have a Bluetooth Devices option that your PC doesn't support Bluetooth.

On Mac it's a lot easier - just click on the greyed out Bluetooth icon on top right hand corner of toolbar and switch it on.

desperatehousewifetoo Wed 13-Aug-08 10:48:45

I think you are right bev, don't think it's on my laptop.

Will try to find where I've put the manual sometime and see if it mentions anything.

Thanks for your help though.

Hope you find your bluetooth teaDr1inker

mummylin2495 Wed 13-Aug-08 17:36:32

i transfer my phone photos to my comp via bluetooth but i have to use the dongle.

TeaDr1nker Wed 13-Aug-08 17:38:09

What is the 'dongle'? Is it the USB cable you use to attch the phone to the computer?

desperatehousewifetoo Wed 13-Aug-08 18:37:58

Sounds very rude to me. Does it make a mess of your computer grin

desperatehousewifetoo Wed 13-Aug-08 18:40:56

This is from wikipedia:

A dongle is a small piece of hardware that connects to a computer. [1] The usual function of a dongle is to authenticate a piece of software. Without the dongle, the software will run only in a restricted mode, or not at all. Dongles are used by some proprietary vendors as a form of copy prevention or digital rights management, because it is much harder to copy a dongle than to copy the software it authenticates.

Of course, it's all clear now..hmm

mummylin2495 Wed 13-Aug-08 21:53:07

here it is

I actually bought mine at a local market. You just install in onto your computer, then when you have worked out how to do it you can transfer your photos from your phone and you dont need any leads. And no i have had no nasty surprises from it onto my computer grin

desperatehousewifetoo Wed 13-Aug-08 22:12:42

There you go, I've learnt something new today!

You have a very cute dongle grin

mummylin2495 Wed 13-Aug-08 22:15:42

yes ,mine is purple !!!!! and lives in a little box so i dont lose it grin its a very simple little thing ,but you can use it to transfer anything from your comp onto an mp3 player and things like that

TeaDr1nker Wed 20-Aug-08 18:21:35

Ok i finally did it - well i ended up going to the photo shop and they downloaded all my pics onto a CD for me to upload onto my computer. Bit of a long way round but got there in the end grin
