what application are you using?

If you are using Mozilla Firefox, there is an add-in (under 'Tools' and 'Adblock' that will do the trick. Unfortunately you have to update it for different websites you use frequently, but it is very quick and

If you are using Internet explorer the option is again under 'Tools' and 'Pop-up Blocker'.

HTH

Hi Melissa

blocking them doesn't work unfortunately nad McAfee doesn't get rid of them but thanks anyway.

Apparently the program has been downloaded with somehthing else...probably msn messenger that DD uses.

I was hoping there would be some sort of spyware program that could get rid of them for me

Could you download the Yahoo toolbar? I have it and have no probs with pop-ups.

You could try Spybot Search & Destroy - I've used it for a few years now, and my PC's always been problem-free. I'm not a great computer whiz, but it does sound like a virus...

Thanks EF. I just downloaded that last week and it did get rid of a couple of nastys but not these CID adverts.

They are soooo annoying.

OOH! I had this and it was getting worse and worse. Yesterday it was up to 15 in a couple of minutes. CiD adware and they still got through the pop-up blocker. I'm with aol and I contacted their interactive helpline and they sorted it-- yesterday, as it happens. PC was infected with spyware virus. Had to go to control panel, add/remove programs, and then unistall the messenger application. Sorted. Try it.

Sorry, new to this posting malarkey and don't know if the link will work properly, but if you can visit the above it gives directions that worked for me a while back.

I was afraid someone was going to say that clam.

DD would be even more of a nightmare to live with if she couldn't get on msn

aargghh...that will have to be last resort.

WAP thanks for the link. (if you put before and after it'll work properly)

If you are using Internet Explorer 7, try disabling Browser Help Objects which you don't know for sure what they are.

From within IE7...
Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons
Dialog box will appear listing add-ons currently installed. Disable anything that you do not recognise.

Ah yes! I was going to add that you might have to run it past an addicted DD first!! Which is worse? Her or the pop-ups?! OR, you could uninstall it, then re-install it. Perhaps that would stem the flow for the time being.
