Can a wi fi booster be used in the same room as the hub? Will it make gaming better ?

I can't see that working, a booster helps the signal travel further, but if you are close it's just another system for it to go through and you'll lose a bit.

Curious as to why you need booster in the same room?

A wifi ‘booster’ doesnt really boost.
It’s a ‘repeater’

The signal from your main hub is received, and then re-transmitted.
They generally get placed either in the middle or as a series in a line one after the other.

You work out why the signal is low - if just a combination of distance and obstructions such as walls ultimately reducing the signal strength you place the repeater somewhere convenient in between where the signal is still fairly reasonable. It picks up the original signal and bounces it on its way, plus it needs to be able to do the same in reverse.
If the signal is being blocked by particulalry solid walls etc then you can try to change direction, such as placing the repeater bedside a door - a fresh signal is stronger and there is a gap in the obstruction

For gaming in the same room as the hub a better solution is an Ethernet cable directly plugged between the router and computer
