digital radio...digital TV

We'd like to get freeview and we've got a TV which is capable of getting this but think now we need a freeview box or satellite dish.
(we don't have cable)
Now, our postcode - when I punch it in to one of those online checking sites, says we shouldn't be able to get freeview without a dish (we can't get channel 5 either) BUT we bought a digital radio from Aldi and it works!

So is the digital radio signal a different one from the one used for a TV? Should I go ahead and buy a box?

I think quite a lot of arse-covering goes on - the companies are reluctant to say you will have a signal unless the signal is absolutely rock-solid, I think. I used to live in Brighton and they insisted that we would not be able to get a Freeview signal down there, but we did about 90 per cent of the time. Can you borrow a box from someone just to see what happens?

I think Tesco are selling them at £10 so could try it and see I guess

you should go into a small local tv shop, and ask.... if your tv has a built-in freeview tuner you shouldn't need a box. I'm pretty sure the digital radio signal is different, so just because you can get radio, it doesn't mean that you will be able to get tv, though you can get digital radio with freeview!

Even if the freeview signal is available in your area, you may need your aerial adjusted, which is why I suggest going into a local shop and asking; if you need it done, they should be able to arrange it.

We live in an area (in East Anglia) where Freeview wasn't supposed to be available - according to the website. We bought and installed a large aerial and now receive it most of the time - though it is less reliable than analogue.

I went to tescos - assistant informed me that £10 deals had stopped now...will check if TV has freeview...will it automatically tune in to freeview if I rerun tuning? or do I have to do sthg special?
