How best to store home movies?

We've got various home movies from mainly the last 10 years - currently stored on either a MacBook Pro, a standalone Verbatim hard drive or USB memory sticks; some are still on the original mini discs that went in an old video camera. They are in various formats having been taken on the old video camera or, more recently, on a digital camera (canon/fuji) or iPhone.
I'd like to back them all up onto something with a view to a) having them better organised; b) keeping them safe; and c) being able to easily watch them on a TV.
Would DVD be the best thing to use and if so which one? I've seen the Verbatim archive one recommended but I don't think that's compatible with a Mac Book?
This is a job I've been putting off for so long now and whenever I start to look at it, the jargon leaves me overwhelmed so I put it off again so any help very much appreciated!

Buy some online storage like Google Drive or its Amazon or Microsoft equivalents.

Impossible to predict the future, but, go for multiple copies on multiple formats.

The most likely issue is not that the storage will fail (tapes, optical discs and electronics all fail over time), but that the format becomes obsolete - imagine trying to find a VHS player now, then a TV with a scart socket etc etc.

I'd go online / drive storage plus usb harddisk and I'd store the files in uncompressed mpg plus their native format.

Depends on how much you want to spend. A home NAS is invaluable in our household, we have a Seagate NAS which I set up myself but cheaper solutions out of the box are available. They are set up to mirror so your content is physically on two hard drives. They also talk to smart TVs ( do check makes and models) but this for us was the easiest way to store our media.

Can you not play on your tv from the hard dive? I would go cloud storage and external hard drive as a back up/to play from
