Need to replace IPOD for running but don't have a lap top - Help me tech folk!

So my gazillion year old IPOD finally died on me (sob!) and whilst I've run for a few weeks music free I'm really missing it especially now the weather has turned and I've no distraction Confused

I don't want to buy another as they're too expensive and I don't like using my IPhone as arm bands annoy me (I know, it means I can't access the music).

So is if possible to buy an MP3 player cheaply which I can load music onto from a site via my kindle? I don't have a laptop either!

I'm basically a tight arse and want to spend as little £ on this ad possible! I've also fallen out of love with Apple so want to avoid them.

Can it be done? Oh and any recommendations and for wireless headphones would be v helpful! Thanks Smile

sits back and Google's s new Apple free playlist

Sorry if this is just stating the bleeding obvious, but could you not just put your phone in a waist belt?

You couid then either run wired earbuds up under your tshirt (so wire isn't flaming) or get wireless ones

Some GPS running watches have music function - Garmin 635 (and newer) have MP3 function, and I think I've seen something that says they've brought out one that supports Spotify. TomTom (and probably others) also have watches with music.

Googling "wearable MP3 player" comes up with a few possibilities.

Thanks, sorry if my OP has sounded lazy - the bit I'm unsure about is whether it's possible to get music on a device without a laptop, IYSWIM? But reading back on what I'd first written I can see that wasn't the main point to come across Confused

Tom Tom watch has the facility to put music on it. I just download music to my iPhone and mirror it on my Apple Watch thought. It's great as Strava is on there and all my music

You didn't sound lazy!

I was trying to think of things you can synch to an iPhone (as you say you have one, even if you are trying to eschew Apples) as you don't currently have a laptop. (This is also because I know nothing about Kindles (other than the very basic ones on which you read books) and how they might connect to other things)

Where were you 'wearing' your iPod?

Just had a look at Strava as new to me look, looks interesting though.
Think I'll have a play around on my Kindle (fire) later and see what music streaming apps I can get, I've a feeling the choices could be limited. It's things like the App Store where I'm reminded how bloody good Apple can be. grrrrr.

Doh posted too soon.

Some of those watches look great although much more than I'd hoped to spend but one may end up on a birthday wish list. So far my running had been a nice comfortable 5k a few times a week and I need to up my game. Maybe a fabulous new gadget will help 😊.

Derelict I've tended to have my IPod clipped to either my waistband or the top of my vest top?

Thanks all for replies, much appreciated.

I love apple. Air pods and the Apple Watch are the best thing I've found for running. I've tried Tom Tom watch and garmin. I just love the fact I don't have to carry an iPod and my music is on my wrist. Plus if I ever fall in the middle of nowhere and break my leg I can call for assistance 😂

You're going to struggle to find anything that doesn't need to be loaded from a laptop. Could you access a laptop (friends/family) once to put a load of music on?

I missed the bit about not copying from a PC. If you can get an SD card adapter for your iphone and copy music onto there, it should then be possible to get an MP3 player that takes an SD card.

I haven't tried any of this, so I can't guarantee that it will work.

If you want to avoid Apple Music then can you not just download Spotify?
Granted if you want to use it whilst on a run you will either have to use your data or pay a monthly subscription and then you can save 1000's of songs to your phone to play without data usage.

IMO the monthly subscription is well worth the money though, at £10 p/m for an individual account or £15 for a family account which allows up to 5 people to have their own accounts, and you can listen as much as you want, with a massive catalogue of songs new and old.
