Anybody out there know how much this would cost? Is it worth doing as it's not particularly new, about 4 years old.

If you get if fixed by Apple (which, officially you should do), it will cost you £200-£300, unless you have AppleCare+ (support.apple.com/en-gb/ipad/repair/service). However, many local companies will replace the screen for £30-£50. This is assuming that it's only the glass, and not the LCD, that's broken.

How would I be able to tell if the LCD is broken? Sorry if this is a stupid question,I'm not very well up in the tech department!

If the iPad doesn't respond to touch input, the digitiser is broken. If it isn't displaying things correctly, the LCD is broken. If it responds to touch input and everything is displayed as it should, you only need to replace the glass. Apple will charge you a flat fee, regardless of what is broken, but other companies will charge you more if the LCD or digitiser is broken.

Reo Tech were brilliant when they fixed my daughters Kindle. I haven't used them for apple products. They don't list prices for Apple products on their website.

QuickMobileFix.com replaced an ipad battery for me. While the battery is fine, they took longer than they said and I only got an explanation when I put a negative review on TrustPilot.

MongerTruffle. Thanks for the explanation. It IS responding to touch input and it is also displaying things correctly,so it must be only the glass that is broken.
CruelAndUnusualParenting (love that user name btw!) Thank you for the link,am looking into using them.
