What's the best alternative to Sky TV?

I am about to move to a listed house in a conservation area. The broadband provision is just the standard 17 mb as fast fibre hasn't made it that far yet.
As the house is listed and the village is naice there is no way I will be allowed a sky dish.
I have had sky TV all of my adult life-and I'm genuinely nervous about not being able to get it.Grin
If you can't get it or don't have it can you tell me what you have instead and if you like it as a system?
I watch a lot of box sets, a lot of stuff on sky Atlantic, sky sports, and the lifestyle stuff and the kids watch kids tv for reference of what we need. (We also do have a life and don't watch TV all the time!)
I am thick about this kind of stuff as exh used to do it-this is my first time doing this stuff on my own and I don't know where to start!

Now Tv has some sky content, no dish or anything. You either buy a box to put by tv or pay a sub online, with separate packages of tv, film, sports and I think kids. I use my parents account as it isn't address specific. Usually special offers, often in Argos for the boxes, I know my parents buy a new box every now and then as that can work out cheaper than monthly fee!

Another option is Amazon prime which has tv but it's not fantastic. Plus is you can see all the offered programs before signing up. And Netflix is pay monthly and includes tv and films.

I'm pretty sure all of them offer a free month or at least a cheap one to try. I tend to swap on and off, right now I have a month of Netflix which was £5.99 then when that ends back to Now Tv.

Oh and Netflix at least has separate users within the account so you can lock a grown-up user and have a kid one for kids! I'm sure there are more services but they are the ones I use- disabled so I don't get out much :D

Thanks goldilocks. I did some research online and now tv seemed best but I just wanted to double check!

It might also be possible to mount a dish on a pole in the garden.

Try regular freeview for a bit to see what you are missing. Put the money saved in a pot. Then look for online offerings that have what you really miss!

more seriously: I presume you can't get virgin cable?

No, fast wires haven't got to the village yet-planned for some point in 2018...

It's true though-maybe I won't miss it all that much other than the things I watch regularly now-it's more of a comfort thing I suppose....my kids are still too young to leave in the evenings so TV and books are my friends once they are in bed.
