So I have a contact on whatsapp.... we have the odd chat on there but they seem to have vanished.... my message is staying as one tick which I know means it's been sent but not received. I thought maybe I had been blocked (oh the shame!!) but then I realise I can still see their profile picture.... haven't tried ringing them as we are that close and don't want to appear anymore of a loser! Is it likely I'm blocked ?

Could they be on holiday with no internet?

Purplerainbow · 29/06/2017 15:09

Mmm unlikely but possible. They live abroad but that hasn't caused a problem in the past. I thought if you were blocked you couldn't see someone's profile picture anymore but maybe that is wrong?

Can't you change settings so you don't actually show that you've read the message?

SewButtons · 29/06/2017 15:10

How long ago did you send the message? My DP has to have his phone off for work and my messages to him always have only one tick until he is able to turn his phone on at lunch/after work

Wonderment · 29/06/2017 15:12

How to know it you're blocked https://faq.whatsapp.com/en/general/21092978

Purplerainbow · 29/06/2017 15:15

Message wAs a couple of days ago.

wonder Ive read that link, so I could be blocked even though I can see their profile picture... possible they have changed it since..?

Funnily enough I have been blocked very recently (not my fault, I would like to add!) and sorry but you can still see their profile picture but you can't see their 'last seen' and your message will sit on sent but not delivered.

Summerisdone · 29/06/2017 15:19

Could the person have got a new phone? I know a lot of people when they get a new phone they just set up a new whatsapp to go with it, rather than linking the old with the new.
If this is the case then their old whatsapp will still technically be active just unused.

Click on their profile to see when they were last online if you can.

NetballHoop · 29/06/2017 15:24

Summerisdone that would only work if they have changed to a new phone number. Whatsapp is tied to the number.

If they have got a new phone though they might just not have install Whatsapp at all yet.

Purplerainbow · 29/06/2017 15:41

They only had a new phone few weeks back .... possible but unlikely.

I asked a friend to have a look if I blocked them on WhatsApp and she said she couldn't see my profile picture when I had blocked her......

So this doesn't make sense../ wondering if the fact they aren't in England makes a difference to that or maybe I'm clutching at straws?!

And I can't see last seen. Never could before though when I'm active contact. You can't on mine either as I have turned that off.

Purplerainbow · 29/06/2017 15:44

I don't know what you call it but you know when you go on your WhatsApp contacts and some people write random stuff next to their name? I can still see that if that makes a difference?

Wonderment · 29/06/2017 15:48

I have someone who talks to me on WhatsApp but I can't see when she was 'last seen', so I assume it's something to do with her phone or provider. Definitely nothing to do with being blocked as she sent me a message today!

taraer · 29/06/2017 15:50

Could of just deleted their whatsapp I have a new number and my partner said my other chat has not picture or anything and that's because I have deleted it.

Purplerainbow · 29/06/2017 15:52

wonder they never had their 'last seen' visible. I don't on my Phoenix either.

I guess a change of phone number is possible....not sure which I worse! Being blocked or not being passed on their new number!

Purplerainbow · 29/06/2017 15:58

We don't have any mutual friends and I don't have any ones number from the country they are in... I'm tempted to withhold my number and see if it rings! Blush

LambChopsMcGee · 29/06/2017 16:11

Try sending them a normal text first? I had a friend abroad who I used to whatsapp and I think her account expired or she stopped using it due to a glitch. My message sat on one tick for years (still is).

If it's just been a few days don't panic. Maybe try a friendly text and say your WhatsApp seems to be playing up, maybe ask for their email address or something?

Purplerainbow · 29/06/2017 16:25

Yeah I could do that..... try a text.... I don't know them 'really' well but there's a chance we may bump into each other in a few weeks and would rather know if I'm blocked to save embarrassment!

OP posts:
taraer · 29/06/2017 16:30

How about you put the number in someone else's phone and see what comes up ? Maybe they haven't got a new one just deleted whatsapp ???? Text them :)

Purplerainbow · 29/06/2017 16:34

So if I put it in someone else's.... and see what I can see from my phone.... what does that say?! Yes I will probably have to text.... just have never texted them before.

Grapeeatingweirdo · 29/06/2017 16:35

It's unlikely you are blocked, my sister (unfortunately) blocked me and I can't see her pic or last seen. My boyfriend is sometimes in a low signal area and my messages to him can stay on one tick for AGES. I can always see his pic.

Good! Send a text, if she is on an iphone, you'll see it "delivered"

Purplerainbow · 29/06/2017 16:51

Nope it's a he (which makes this so awkward as there is a big back story!) and they have an android!
