Does anyone speak iPhone/iTunes?

I have a new iPhone and I'm desperately trying to merge the stuff on it with the stuff on my PC.

Apple's website forum is difficult to understand and assumes too much (it thinks I've probably got a brand new phone with nothing on it).

I just want to keep everything on my new phone (restored from a back up) and everything on my PC and then do a regular back up eithe manually or over iCloud as and when.

Is it me? It seems so difficult to just merge the two!
