iPhone - not getting the best out of it

That's it, really. I'm not getting the best out of it and I'm not sure what to do.

I have pics on it from years back, try to upload and whatever PC I choose, I get the message that 'no new pics are available for upload' so I cannot free up any space.

I also don't seem to be able to put new music on it, either by buying directly (the store seems to have vanished from iPhone) or by connecting the phone to iTunes. I've purchased a few singles and they don't sync with my phone.

I'm constantly ignoring the insistent messages to upgrade to latest iOs because I'm nervous of losing my data that I haven't been able to back up. I have important pics on this phone that I can't lose!

Stuck in a vicious circle here. Help!

Download shoebox app (I have the paid for version). Back all your photos up on there (can work with your pc as well).

Hi Welsh. I had the same problem that I couldn't use App Store to update or buy apps because I was on iOS 8 and phone wanted me to upgrade to iOS 10.2.
Are you using iTunes on Mac or PC to sync? Hopefully you can use that to download apps.
I have used ImageCapture on Macbook to download my pics off and free up space.
I haven't heard of Shoebox (although will look it up now!) but am now using Google Photos to store my pics (unlimited "high quality" photo and video storage) so that I don't get into that mess again.

Call Apple Support and someone will talk you through your back up and upgrade 0800 107 6285. They'll also help you turn your iCloud on to save your data automatically.
If you're not backed up and you lose your phone you'll have an issue anyway.

Yes you can then update.

There is the iCloud option as well, but for the number of photos I have I prefer shoebox. It's all very seamless.

Oh but yes iCloud will save your entire phone set up. I upgraded my iPhone recently - restored from iCloud & even the web pages I had been reading were opened on the new phone.

Shoebox downloaded but again, it will only download so far. Same with one drive and icloud. It'll store about 100
Pics but ai have over 1000 pics from as far back as 2013 that won't budge

Or email any photos to yourself - takes time though!

Does it not work if you just plug it into your laptop and treat it like a memory stick? I.e. Just go to My Computer and view the files on it that way and copy them over, rather than use iTunes. That's how I get all my photos off.

I'd imagine the reason you're having issues is because your iOS is so old..?
