Making a Gantt chart using Excel

Does anyone know if it's possible to put weekly dates in a row, without having to do each one individually?

Not even sure if that makes sense...

The list of jobs is down the side, I need the dates across the top. I have one chart / spreadsheet which is an overview and was going to do a different sheet for the key stages. So ideally a breakdown of 6 monthly periods.

If you put the first two dates in eg 1/11/2016, 8/11/2016.
Then highlight the two weeks. Click on the bottom right of the second cell and drag across the top. It should then automatically populate with the weekly dates

I've tried that and it just repeated the two dates across the top Confused

I clicked on something which said dates and now the dates go up one day at a time Hmm

At work I give the spreadsheet stuff to one of my amazing colleagues and she just sorts it out - can't really do that with a PhD! I am on a Mac so not the normal microsoft version - would that make a difference?

Type the first date. Next cell you want a date, "=that first cell +7", then drag that formula across.

Have you selected date as the format?

You need to do the first two cells e.g. 07-11-16 and 14-11-16 then it will increase by weeks, not days

If you're not managing it by dragging then put the first two dates in, select from the first cell over to the right as far as you need to go, then do Fill -> Series -> Series in Rows, Type: Date, Date Unit: whatever you want to increment in, Step value: however many date units you want to increase by at a time. Then click on OK.
