Don't know if I'm posting in the right place, sorry.
My nearly 9yo DD is getting interested in making "stuff" - sellotape, scissors and paper don't cut it anymore. Birthday's coming up, been looking at LittleBits, but it's a bit out of my price range. I've seen tutorials for making ArtBots with a toy motor, wires, batteries and a switch and it reminds me of stuff we had at school, simple circuits to make lights go on & off, etc. Could I order some bits & bobs off Amazon that she could have a go with? If so, could anyone tell me what kind of things I should be looking for to put together a nice little starter set, like LittleBits? Basically, I want to encourage her to be creative and inventive but I was never really exposed to this kind of stuff, so don't know where to begin...

I don't know anything about ArtBots, but can I recommend a hot glue gun and lots of glue sticks? They are a bit dangerous, as the tip of the gun and the glue that comes out are very hot, so not good for a child who is careless (or a parent who is a worrier).

We use glue guns for everything as they instantly make a VERY strong binding between almost any two kinds of material. We make costumes, large junk sculptures, props, and any number of other things with ours. They do what tape, staples and regular glue aren't able to do.
