Yes. I can turn my phone off and put the alarm on, and it will switch back on and wake me.

What kind of mobile do you have?
If an iPhone, I believe there is an independent volume setting when you set your alarm. Alternatively, there is a setting called Do Not Disturb that can block the alerts for text/emails.

Not sure about other mobiles.
