In need of help. Not long had a MacBook and technically challenged. Daughter sends me a word document via email on my iPad and new MacBook. I need to make alterations to this document but cannot work out how to do it on my Mac. Clicking and tapping does not allow me to send it to Pages to work on. My daughter cannot help me as she is only an iPad and PC user. I don't have word on my Mac and am hoping there is a simple way for me work on it and return it to her. Would be so grateful for any help.

It should just open in Pages when you click on the attachment or when you save it to the desktop.
You will need to go to file...export and export it as a Word document so that she can read it when you send it back to her

You could install Libreoffice for Mac - its free and is pretty much a word clone. It will write out the file in a word compatible format.

Thank you both for your help. I will have a go into pages in the morning. I am so technically challenged that I will have to play around to get the attachment document into pages. At least I know it can be done and that I can return it in a word format.
Thank you ctdaylornats for your suggestion. I have never heard of Libreoffice. That sounds really interesting as its free. I was beginning to think that I will have to buy Word which means adding extra cost to my recent MacBook purchase ..ouch!

Yogabird, just to let you know. I tapped on the attachment and sent it to documents. Couldn't find it in pages but found it in Find. I was able to do all the editing in Find and then, joy, found the share icon and sent to mail which then allowed me to do as you said and send as a word document. I also sent a Pfd just in case! My daughter got it and printed it out. Thank you so much...don't need Word. What a relief! Smile Flowers
