Would an Ipod be the best thing for my daughter?

Hi, I have a 10 year old daughter with learning difficulties. She loves books, although she can't read very well at all. She loves to listen to audio books in the car so I was wondering if we could put these books on an Ipod and she could listen to them while out and about?
She gets quite worked up when there are people around her that she doesn't know, so I thought this would help with those times.
I don't know very much at all about them so I have some questions..

• Is it easy and how much does it cost to download each audio book?
  
  
• Can you listen to it without headphones, say if I wanted to listen to the story with her?
  
  
• Would an Ipod be the best thing for audio books, if so what would be the best/ easiest one to get?

We got dd an iPod at Christmas she is dyslexic, we got speakers so she can listen without head phones, iTunes have a lot of books for childen but we have found them expensive, we have signed up to listening books a charity that provides books free to those with learning disabilities
And the blind you just have to pay a joining fee, there are loads on there we are just getting started with it but think will be the answer.
I wanted Dd to be able to access the same books as her peers so not to feel left out by not being able to read them.

My DCs listen to audiobooks on their Ipods through the built in speakers, as well as docking stations and headphones, the sound quality through the built in soeaker isn't good enough for music IMO (DCs disagree!) but it's ok for spoken word. We mainly buy ours on CD and transfer them via Itunes, buy them in sets from The Book People, look for them in charity shops etc.

I will look at Listening Books, DS has autism, thanks for that idea Farmerslife.

Yes you can definitely do this kind of thing on an ipod, or any generic MP3 player. There's a subscription service called Audible which is supposed to be very good, I'm not sure how it works, but worth checking out price wise.
