Confused about processer type and speed

I'm looking to buy a device I can use at home with a program I use in work which is processor-heavy.

I've been told the minimum processor spec is Intel Pentium i3, (or i5 or i7), but also that it needs a minimum of 2.2 gHZ.

However, devices I like the look of which have the Intel Pentium spec stat that the gHZ are less that 2.2 - there's an i7 which is 2 gHZ.

I'm confused - would the i7 2 gHZ be up to the job? My tech knowledge doesn't extend to understanding how processors do their stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Can you share the program?

Also are you after a new motherboard to upgrade a desktop PC, or are you looking at a laptop?

Also what are you willing to budget

Also if you don't want to give the name of the program, can you tell us what the program does - Video Editing/3d Rendering etc

Sorry for the delay in replying - it's voice recognition software.

... Which alone will cost c. £200. I was thinking £500 ish for the laptop.

Thank you.

For that sort of price you can get an HP Pavilion with an i5 processor - the i5-4288u has 2 cores and a base frequency of 2.6 GHz.

Thanks - I'm going off to PC World this morning, will take a look.

I also like the Asus transformer book flip TP300LA which seems to meet the spec.
