Hudl - anyone got one for their kids and what do you think?

I am thinking of getting a hudl for my kids to share - mainly to keep them away from my iPad!

Has anyone got one and would you buy it again or would you choose something else and why?

Thanks

marking my place as I'm thinking the same. Ds has a leap pad and I'm disappointed with it so wondering what the next step up could be.

I just bought one of the Hudl 1s as they were reduced but haven't opened it yet and no idea what apps to put on it

Dh has one. It's a very acceptable android tablet ( his is 1st gen).

It's a bit heavy if you are used to an ipad. I would think it's an ideal kids tablet.

My teenage ds had one for Christmas last year. It's had plenty of use and has stood up to it fine. Not many things my son has owned are still working 10 months later.

The Hudl2 has had excellent reviews and is considered real value for money. What is even better is that you can use club card boost which I've just done, paying £65 instead of £129 Grin.

Thanks for all the fast replies. I was wondering if they would be disappointed having got used to the iPad.

I would also need to use it for googling and YouTube for DD1 as he uses these more than apps at the moment. I have heard the hudl 1 is a bit slow- this would really annoy her. Perhaps hudl2 is quicker? They certainly seem to be claiming this. Any experience out there?

My 2 DC had them for Christmas last year. They have been used almost daily since then and have survived easily with barely a scratch. One of them gets a screen freeze occasionally but a quick reset with a paperclip sorts it out straight away. The other one has never had a problem/glitch/freeze. I used all vouchers to buy them and I've been really pleased.

Mine use Netflix a lot and don't have any trouble with speed. Daren't let them loose on YouTube though, they are only 4&6!

My 10 year old has just bought herself the hudl 2, I'm very impressed with it.
The screen is great
It seems quite fast to open web pages etc
The App Store is decent
It's a much nicer design than the 1st generation

Downsides are, battery life is not as good as the iPad althought not terrible,
Camera is only ok and there is no option to pay more for a larger memory.

Tesco advertise it as sd card compatible but please be aware that you cannot run apps from the sd card so it's only useful for storing photo/videos etc.

We've had iPads for a few years now so I'm can compare the hudl to them and feel it's fantastic value for money, and ideal foe children.

My DD (10) uses her Hudl for YouTube a lot and has not complained - mind you she isn't used to anything else so no comparisons to be made.
Both DCs had one for Christmas last year. DDs had to be replaced after Easter because it stopped charging - judging by the ease of exchange in store I think it is a common fault. DSs (12) has been OK though.
Both play lots of games on them and use it for BBC iPlayer too.

Oh and they also use Skype on there when DH is away and that's fine too.

Have a Hudl 1, supposed to be for DH but DD1 has commandeered it. It's very good, better for small hands than the regular iPad and has great sound. Also very sturdy. Camera awful but they are on most tablets anyway. DD loves it, have a parental controls app on it that makes it easier for her to find her stuff.

The Hudl 2 is supposed to be faster, although I haven't noticed any problems with online stuff. Looks like a great tablet, I would totally get one if I needed another.

Ds1 got one for christmas last year loves it and is on it all the time. Uses google play store for apps and has chrome you tube already pre loaded.
This is his second one as unfortunately his first one died last month , totally dead black screen. However i phoned tesco and they sent a replacement one the next day, which i thought was great service.

Thank you. That all sound reassuring. I think I might go for it!
