Photo storage intervention needed! Could some clever person please talk me through storing photos in the 'Cloud' or whatever?

Aargh! We have photos all over the place and it is driving me bonkers. Different sets of photos are currently in random places on a PC, two laptops, two iPads, 3 iPhones, 2 cameras...

I would like one central location that we can access from any device, any time. Ideally I would like it to be a bit like Photostream, so that any time we take a photo it automatically lands there. (Not that I have ever managed to get any of our Photostreams to behave in a non-random way. Confused)

Several of our devices have nowhere near enough storage to keep all photos on, hence looking for a central depository with dead simple functionality.

Sorry if I'm a bit behind the times on this. Blush

Although I'm pretty sure I'm not the only MNer who would benefit from photo storage intervention.

I would wonder if DropBox would do that for all the devices. You get 2GB of space for signing up, additional space can be gained by referring people, or you can pay.

The iPad app certainly can auto-upload photos. I have seen the Android App do auto-upload, so would imagine most of the DropBox apps for various Operating Systems will do auto-upload of photos. On Windows7, dropbox lets you sync specific folders, so you could select the folder containing your photos.

You can then view the photos using the dropbox app on mobile, tablets. You can view using the desktop app for Windows, and you can view via a web browser.

Won't do it for the cameras. So would need to upload images to somewhere first (such as a laptop) then that could upload to DropBox once the laptop has a WiFi connection.

Pretty sure that Flickr would do this for you. You would still have to transfer the files from camera to laptop, though.

Depends on how much space you need but there's a competitor to Dropbox with a similar feature set called [[http://www.copy.com]]. Except instead of 2GB like Dropbox you get 15GB to start with.

Crucially you can get other people/friends etc to sign up and each of you get an extra 5GB. I've now amassed quite a bit of space.

Give it a try, if any of you sign up using this link: copy.com?r=7O0zj9 then we both get 5GB extra.

Hope that helps
