Sky box - can't access playback, can't rebuild planner

Our Sky HD box has developed a fault - we can't play things back (or indeed record new things). The Sky recommended solution seems to be to rebuild the planner, but when we try this, it says it is running in diskless mode. All Sky can then suggest is a full reset, but if we do this we will lose all our recordings. It's clearly not the end of the world, but it is annoying, and there are things I don't think we'll be able to replace like DS1's Wiggles recordings (not being shown on TV any more). Is there anything else we could try first?

I had this problem and in the end I had to admit defeat and do a full reset. I spent hours searching the internet but found no other solution. Sorry.

Thanks. That's the conclusion I was reaching too. DH is looking into the possibility of taking out the hard drive to copy the files off or even perhaps just maybe being able to fix whatever the issue is. However the concern is that if he does that, the box would no longer be covered under warranty etc. And there is certainly no guarantee he would be successful.

Did the full reset work for you? And have you ever had to do it again...?

If the hard drive is still OK, you might be able to plug a PC into the Ethernet port and pull the data out that way. Of course I don't know what you can actually do with it after that!
