Hi.
My satnav died on me, leaving me lost and frustrated. I as wondering about getting one for the ipad or my phone (Samsung ace 2) but don't really understand how they work Blush. I presume that you don't need internet connection? Do they work as well as the car ones you plug into the cigarette lighter? (That also doesn't work reliably.) I have a maps app on the ipad, but that only works when in range of my wireless internet at home. Would the satnav be the same? Would it completely drain the battery of the phone or ipad; ie could I use it without plugging in the charger?

You need internet to use any Satnav. I have google maps on my iPhone and it works with 3G. It's great, I use it all the time. It doesn't completely drain the battery and doesn't need plugging in really

Generally you need Internet. Although on Android you can store a set of maps locally to the device through Google Maps so that Internet is not required.

Google Navigation is also far better than the iOS equivalent (and are you really going to strap an iPad to your windscreen?).

I'd use your phone. I've been using Google Navigation for 5 years now and never found I needed anything more.

The big bonus is that it's already there on your phone so you don't need to go and 'get one'!

You need internet/3G for 'app' type satnavs to work. I use Waze on my iPhone it's free and pretty good with stuff like predicting traffic etc.

Just set up a hotspot off your phone and get your iPad to run Internet that way. Unless you have an iPhone, in which case, just use google maps Grin

I use NavU on my iPhone, course it works without Internet connection! What use would it be otherwise? Hmm I just have an iPhone holder which sticks to the windscreen, from halfords I think.

You can't use your iPad! Where would you put it even if you had 3G on it ?Grin
