HELP re:Minecraft servers.... (help needed by Minecraft luddite)

I bow to the massed Geeks of MN - and beg help.
I am not entirely happy - but it is his money to waste spend.

My kids talk about hypixel a lot, but I must admit I don't pay attention (DH dept). I don't think they ever pay any money towards it, though. There are so many free servers out there, why pay?

Mind you I don't see the attraction of Minecraft in the first place. Yes I know it has Lego like attributes and can be very creative. But the YD monologues at me about it for hours...

Ds(9) asked for money for privileges on one of these servers. As far as I know only so many people can join a game at a time and members with privileges get bumped higher up the queue and get on a game before a basic member.

This means Basic members cant get on during busy times. Ds says £15 gives you very few privileges for that one sever only and no guarantee you will get on (unless you pay for higher privileges). If he can't get on he tries another server.

Ds is only 9 so that m ay all be wrong!

s1 says a simple server is easy as hell. You host it yourself ( unllikely for you) or rent one for three quid.

Will google renting minecraft servers - and see whether the YD would want to do that instead. (He won't, he'll want to do both!)

Mind you (having just googled servers) the cost of his membership is about the same as a year's server rental.

I guess I will just let him choose how to waste his money... I don't suppose it is any different really to me spending all my time and money on riding when I was a teenager

Yes he is. He says that for 40 you might as well rent a server if he plays with his friends but if he plays on is own then the privileges are still ridiculous.

Is there anyone kind enough to post a step by step guide on how to get into Creative Mode? I'm a dinosaur, and DS can't figure it out either!

Shakey Ds(9) says click on where it says "survival mode" when you are creating a new world.
