itunes sharing account?

I arely used my iphone or ipod and when ds1 got his first ipod he just used my iTunes account. anyway fast forward to having got a new phone for work and home (2 blinking iphones now, probably look like a mumsy drug dealer Wink) I wanted to separate the account but obviously neither one of us want to lose music that we have already paid for. Can ds1 open a new iTunes account and transfer his music to there or would he have to start all over again?

Hes spent over £50 in the last couple of months of his own money, but then I have spent ages uploading/downloading my cd collection and have purchased a fair few albums songs myself.

also will it affect apps as well?

The simple answer is no. One of you is going to loose the downloads. You have to set up a separate account for one of you and start over. This will apply to the apps as well. Set up the new account on the same computer and it will pull in all the CD's you have uploaded so probably best if you have the new account.

HTH

I thought that would be the answer. Thanks

Are you sure you can't still share the iTunes account. You can have seperate iCloud accounts so that you can have your own contacts etc.

I share an iTunes account with my 4 kids. (At Uni) We keep an eye on how much we spend and buy itunes vouchers to roughly cover our own expenditure.
We have similar musical tastes so it works well for us. Obviously, we don't have a credit card attached to the account.

I didn't know that about the cloud account. Somehow though our imessage thing goes through to both phones so if we message a friend we both receive the message. I didn't have it set up before because my personal phone was a galaxy s3 but had signal issues and it didn't work in my home postcode! shame as I much prefer the galaxy.

if we can keep the contacts separate then the music and apps side of things isn't too bad. I was thinking more for furture years when hes left home but if separate cloud then it wont be an issue. I assume this means no access to each others photos either. I'm too old to be taking pics I wouldn't want any one else to see but in a few years time, who knows what ds might want!

Have a look at the Message section in settings - under send and receive it shows which numbers or email addresses can send/receive messages - you can untick the shared address on one of your phones (or both) and use your own separate iCloud accounts for messages.

I FOUND THIS INFORMATION It explains things a lot better than I can. It is dated pre iOS7 but I don't think it matters.

I think you can have separate accounts but if you turn on home sharing you can each access the other's music libraries.
