Hate our local shop for mobiles. My mobile is very basic cheap pay as you go. Need Whatsapp and don't understand from looking up on laptop which phone I need (that is the reasonable to cheapest in price rating). Most important is privacy and easy to use but what I need to know I guess is do I really need a mobile to use whatsapp or can it be done on the laptop or something else?

Whatsapp only works on phones.

It does work on these Nokia phones (according to the website) so you don't need to spend a fortune on an iPhone.

Nokia C3-00 · Nokia C3-01 · Nokia X2-01 · Nokia X3-02 · Nokia X2-00
Nokia Asha: 201 · 206 Single Sim · 210 · 300 · 302 · 303 · 305 · 306 · 308 · 309 · 310 · 311

It also works on most blackberries and Android phones.

Why not buy a used one on eBay for £10-20?

Does it need to be Whatsapp? There are other chat client applications that do work on a laptop (like Skype for example).

Ah thanks for all your replies. Yes it does need to be whatsapp as that's what the others are using - unless anyone knows otherwise?

It's not the phone that you should focus. It's your call plan. Whatsapp uses your internet connection unlike ordinary SMS text messages.

These days most people have at least 250mb per month data but I know people who have basic plans. If that is you then you need to change your plan.
