Which laptop to get?

Hello, lovely geeky women. I need to get a new laptop ( have an iPad but need a laptop for the small amount of work I do at home). Looking for something with good storage for photos and music, reasonably fast processing but it doesn't need to have gaming capability. I've been happy with Toshiba and Samsung in the past but wasn't over-impressed with the Dell I am about to replace...looking to spend between £500 and £600. What would you recommend, please?

Did you get anywhere with this? I want a new laptop with similar specs to you.

Hello. I've had a couple of recommendations - Toshiba, Acer and Lenovo seem to be top favourites. I shall let you know what I find out :)

Save a bit more and get a MacBook. It works so well with our iPhone's/iPad and we've never had one single fault with it in 3 years.

I have a 5 year old MacMini, the lowest spec of all the Apple line up. It has iTunes handling 150gb of music and iPhoto handling 10,000+ photos, plus it has a free view dongle so it can record TV for me.

It's never crashed, never needed "rebuilding", hasn't slowed down and never "lost a file".

I've never had a Windows machine that could do all that without some serious headaches over time.

I got my first macbook for £500 second hand. It was released in 2008 and had been dropped a few times with dents in the case and dirt behind the screen. It still ran faster , smoother than a 2012 windows machine. Never crashed, booted in 20 seconds. you cannot go wrong.

In the end, after lots of reading reviews and asking advice, I went for a Dell Inspiron with i5 processor, 8gb RAM and 1TB hard drive. I know I wasn't over impressed with my previous Dell but I had so many Dell owners saying how good they are that I have decided to give them another go. Hope I am right!

Thank you for your suggestions. I was tempted by the Mac but in the end decided I couldn't justify the expense and didn't want to go for a refurbed/second-hand one. Maybe next time :)
