Geeky stuff

Please Please tell me how we can get rid of the "verbal" subtitles on our television!

Hi. Somehow our television now has an extremely irritating person telling us what everyone is doing. Presumably this is for blind people but we aren't blind and it is a real pain.

No-one in the house has owned up to putting them on and so we don't know how to undo it. The normal subtitle button just seems to refer to the usual written subtitles which we can turn on and off just fine.

Please help us get rid of this complete pain in the neck. So many thanks and positive vibes would wing towards you from our family if you can suss it. :)

Do you have Sky? As I know how to turn it off from that.

It's called audio description.

Is it the TV that is doing the audio description or is it coming from a freeview box, sky box, etc? What make, model.

Once that is known then you can hunt out a manual and find the answer, alas it will vary between devices.

There may well be a button on the remote that turns it on and off, or it may be an option in a menu.

Thanks guys. No we don't have Sky, just the freeview stuff.

The TV is an old Panasonic, (Quintrix).
The digital box thing is Dion.

I assumed something was clicked on one of the remote controls but can't suss it out.

Re the menu, same there, various experimenting hasn't got us anywhere.

The TV is very old, no manual.

Digibox, don't know if it is anything to do with that.

Most likely to do with the digibox as that is what is getting the signal and sending it to the TV, given that the TV is old. Never heard of Dion though.

DigitalUK has some online manuals. One of them was for a Dion (Tesco) Freeview Recorder, that has an option in the Settings menu called Language, Hearing Impaired. See if your Dion has a setting within the settings:language section for hearing impaired and see if it gives the option to turn it off.

Cindy thank you so much for your help!

I have done what you said, got very excited as well, but when I turned "hearing impaired" to off it went mute Confused.

I shall try and look at the online manual. Great idea.

Fancy Puffin mentioned audio description which is what it is but it wasnt' in that language list of options. AAAAAHHHHH!

Is there a button on your remote with ad on it? If there is pressing that should sort it out.
