Luddite with a tablet...which android apps would you recommend?

Just got a Nook tablet - apparently I can download android apps via Google Play.

What are your favourite Apps? What can't you live without?Games/travel/food/style/politics etc?

My 3 year old is interested in things he can use the tablet for too?

Hello, MrsCocoa. Surely the first app you need is the Mumsnet one
I use my banking and Paypal apps all the time, and of course you must get Angry Birds. There are a lot of free games your DC will enjoy, plus loads of cute learning tools for tots. Block out a couple of days hours to roam around Google Play and make your choices! You can always uninstall ones you don't like.

Read the reviews (or at least the star ratings) to minimise the risk of downloading a bad app that could harm you or your tablet. Have fun!

Nice idea, garlicagain, but the MN App is perhaps not that 'vital' for now... I've certainly found the Dolphin browser more useful for when I want to look at MN from my tablet.

I bought TuneIn Radio Pro (but there's a free version too) and thoroughly recommend it (for use on wi-fi at home, eg for some digital stations {*} when you're in the garden enjoying some sun...

{BBC 6Music, R4 Extra, FiveLive to name a few, and stations from around the world too [I listen sometimes to SoMa FM from San Francisco, which has a wide range of music streams, or World Radio Network for English speech/news broadcasts from across Europe and further afield, NPR from USA, plus Jazz from USA/Canada, but you take your pick! ]}

There's also World Wide Webcams which may be a distraction - just a series of live webcams from all over, so you may see night views one minute, daytime the next, animals, ships, trains, ski resorts, you name it, it could appear...

TV Catchup perhaps, for emergencies (for live broadcasts - it doesn't let you catch up!) and TV Guide for a pretty comprehensive way to view the schedules for next few days.

On the subject of TV guides, the Sky+ app offers by far the best scheduler I've seen on Android. Even if you don't have Sky its an excellent planner. And if you DO have Sky then it's a must have as you can not only set programmes to record from it, but you can also use it as a remote control to change channels and fast forward and rewind your TV!
