Can I unblock an iPhone 4S myself?

I just broke my iPhone by dropping it and my brother has given me his old work one. But it was with a different provider (not O2 which I am) and is blocked with my new sim card in.

Does anyone know if I can sort it? A local phone dealer will for £50 and said it would take 4 days but I was hoping for something easier!

Thanks

Hope I was clear, the new sim is ok but the phone won't accept it as from a different network

I believe you can call the network it is locked to and they will do it.

Ok. Thanks so much. Will try and put my brother on the case!

I had this problem.
I think if you stay on the same network it's straight forward.
Apple told me that if it's 'jail braked' the warranty isn't valid.

In the end I changed to the original provider & changed my number which was very inconvenient.

That's really helpful to know. Waiting for him to tell me what provider but I agree a pain to change number and I love O2. I've otherwise only used Vodafone which I hated!
