Galaxy s4 or iPhone 5?

Hi all,

Title says it all really, I'm due an upgrade and don't know which of these to go for. I have an iPhone 4 and I know the 5 isn't too much different or is it? and I'm not sure whether to stick with what I know or try the s4? I'm quite good with technology, would like decent battery life, good camera and a jazzy phone I suppose! Memory is good too as since ds came along I rarely get on my laptop so do alot more spend time on mn on my phone. I'm torn between the two and though I've read up on them I'm still unsure, wondered if anyone a bit more techy might be able to help. What are galaxy's like to use?

They're both good phones. The hardware (screen, camera etc) is arguably better on the Galaxy S4 and the software (operating system, apps etc) it's arguably better on the iPhone.

The big issue is that as an existing iPhone user it will be monumentally easier to stick with iPhones. Apple doesn't make it easy to transfer contacts, music etc to anything other than another iPhone. Plus you're already well used to the way iPhones work.

If you're good with technology then the transition to Android won't be that hard. In fact it will probably be quite liberating when you realise all the things the iPhone couldn't do!

The S4 is a far better phone hardware wise (remember that the iPhone 5's real contender was the S3 and even then it didn't exactly win out).

Although it might be easier to stick with Apple, there's also the argument that if you get out now, you won't be stuck with them later! Android by nature is very compatible with the rest of the world, Apple is not so much.

If you want a good battery life then I'd have to suggest the S4.

Reason being is that you can easily buy a spare battery.

I have the Samsung Note and have purchased a spare battery & separate charger. This means when i am running low on juice, i just switch over batteries and pop the empty one on charge. It's FAR better than the iphone where I'd have to plug the cable in for charging. Especially now they've changed the flipping cable. In the past I had a fair chance my friends would possibly have an iphone cable somewhere. Now there's little chance.

S4 S4 S4 or to be honest the sensible option is the S3 given the improvements are mainly tweaks and the S3 is much cheaper now as a result of it not being the latest phone.

I'd also think a SIM only deal may be the way to go - or when talking to the network, get them to give you unlimited data, texts, and calls, and a reduction in your monthly payment.

They don't offer 'unlimited data' ? Simple - ditch them!


Definitely worth looking at e2save.com and mobiles.co.uk (the previous two belong to Carphone Warehouse), phones4u.co.uk, and any others you see mentioned on HotUKDeals.com, because you can do a search for a SIM Only deal for what you currently get and see if you can push to pay as low or lower (for your loyalty to stay with your current network).

I was with Three from Feb 2012, and missed out on 80 quid cashback last year so was paying 15 quid for 600 minutes, 3000 texts and unlimited data. I just switched to T-Mobile "Full Monty" and was paid over 100 quid in cashback, so the monthly fee of 16 quid is reduced to effectively < 8 quid a month and I get unlimited !


Am just saying that a SIM Only deal (unless you really feel unable to live without a new shiny shiny toy) is perhaps worth considering and will save you a load of money...
