Be gentle with me. I have an iPhone, iPad and apple computer, I have registered for I- cloud but I keep getting a message to say my settings need updating, is i-cloud free? How difficult is it to use i-cloud?

Hello-big disclaimer... I'm no expert but I was having trouble too. If you're anywhere near an apple store, would be tempted to go in with all your gear, and stand by the door shouting 'Fix iiiit' until someone turns up.

AFAIK you get a bit of storage on iCloud for free, but it's not loads, it seems to be for sharing info between your devices rather than storing, if you know what I mean. I had too many pics and vids on my camera roll for it to back everything up at first

I went to the online apple help centre and took it from there, was pretty good. Try here www.apple.com/uk/support/icloud/getstarted/

My problem turned out to be that my iOS was out of date, had such an old version that updates not automatic. Check that first for all 3 maybe? Sorry if you've done that already, like I say, I'm no expert, and it shows...

Oh yeah an now I've set it up (admittedly just for one device at the mo, and just to back up info) I hardly know its there - I've set what I want it to save (contacts, a few photos etc) and it does its thang when it's charging with a good wifi signal. i.e. whilst I'm asleep!

Okay - where're you getting the message, iTunes rather than phone/pad/mac itself?

Message pops up on the i-phone to say settings need adjusting but when I go to settings they are not available at the moment.

Yuck, no iCloud option available at all or it say no/not avail when you tap? If not there at all it's really likely to be your operating system.

if not already sorted though -is your iCloud registration complete when check via PC/Mac?

Also worth checking that your email addresses assoc with both iCloud and AppleID are def the same, that might mess up a few things like device verification.

After that reckon into turning on and off again/trying to re register territory. There's a troubleshoot tool for iCloud, but again use PC rather than phone if you can't get access to settings anyway.

Many thanks boomum, it may be my email addresses are conflicting. I did wonder if my data is too large for the free iCloud service and that perhaps I need to pay a subscription fee.

Great, isn't it, when something like that makes everything else a non starter. Hope sorted. I had too much too, but did let me register etc, just kept giving me unsubtle hints about subscribing til I did some spring cleaning.
