Can anyone reccomend a good free antivirus programme I can find on the net to download?

No, dont install two anti virus products on one machine. They will conflict.

I recommend you try Unthreat Antivirus, it's free and easy to use. I've been using it for a while now and haven't had a virus since I got it!
you can check

Can also recommend using the Trend Micro 'Housecall' (it runs from a small download, and doesn't get permanently installed so doesn't cause conflict issues, but is useful as a quarterly additional free 'scan' of your system).
