Why can't I receive pics/ MMS on my phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace)?

If someone tries to send me a photo or some other form of MMS I just get a message saying 'downloading' and it tells me the message size and expiry date. Trouble is, it never downloads.

I'm presuming there's something that I haven't (or have?) ticked in the settings that I need to change but I can't find what.

Anyone know please?

I don't know but I have the GalAce and I was sent a picture recently, so the phone will do it.

Is the phone configured as per how your phone company provided it?

When viewing list of messages, select settings menu. Then scroll down to Multimedia. In that bit I just gave auto retrieve ticked. There does not seem to be that many things you can change.

That's the only one I've got ticked in the multimedia bit too and, like you said, there's not much else that can be changed is there?

Do you have a sim package,if so are mms messages included in that.We had this recently,ds sent both me and dh a mms of his new born son,dh was unable to download his as there is a charge for receiving mms messages and they arent included in his package.I dont have a package, just air time credit so the photo just turned up in my messages.

Its a contract phone/package that includes texts, data and calls.

I took out a cheaper contract for DD at the same time through the same provider ( but shes got the Samsung Galaxy Y) and she can receive pictures on hers so I'm convinced its more of a settings problem. However I will check the contract to see if there's something in there about mms.

I believe the ability to send and receive MMS sometimes needs to be activated by the provider. When I got my new phone a few months ago one of the first text messages I received was one from T-Mobile telling me they'd switched on MMS for me, so I guess it should happen automatically, but maybe it hasn't for you for whatever reason? Try giving your network a call and see what they say.

Another possibility is that the image was too big for the Ace to accept.

Any more info on what was being sent (file size, image resolution) ?

I've had items not display on other phones when not taken with the built in camera, as if they 'assume' the maximum for an image will match what the phone's camera itself can display.

The only one I haven't deleted and is still 'downloading' is a 1KB mms which I presume is a business card or whatever you call them as I'd asked a friend to let me know someones number. Before that it was a photo taken on friends phone but I can't remember the file size.

I've just had a look on the providers website and there was something about APNs so I've checked all the settings there and put in the details for the MMSC which wasn't on the phone so maybe that will do the trick?

Try "More settings" then "Mobile networks" then tick in box " Mobile data" . this enables data access over mobile network.

You have to call your service provider, they will then send you an activation text.

I had this same exact problem on my Samsung Galaxy A5 and I figured it out!

I went to Settings - More Networks - Mobile Networks - Access Point Names (APN for short). Once there, I tapped the three dots at the top of the screen and tapped "Reset to Default." It immediately chose the correct option for me (mine was "ATT Nextgenphone") and downloaded all the messages I had missed in less than five seconds. I hope this works for you too!

By the way, i bought my phone unlocked and I'm using it as an AT&T Go Phone.
