Teetering on getting a new iPad with Retina Display, about to give up with my iPad (first and original)

I'm so close to buying a new iPad, as am getting fed up with apps crashing, can't even read newspapers without them crashing, etc.

I've tried clearing the memory by soft resets, getting rid of unused apps, videos, etc, but still it happens.

Is it the end of my iPad 1st edition?

(Tried Google Nexus 7 and sold it as I didn't get on with it)

Probably. Mine is doing the same, but I'll be damned if I buy another one. Am waiting to see what the Surface tablets are like, or maybe Amazon will make a 10 in Kindle Fire.

Mine's getting a bit slow which is probably normal given it's had several upgrades to the IOS which are all designed mainly for faster tablets.

But it's not crashing or anything.

The new ones crash a lot. We have a few in work and much prefer the original as less crashes.

What you want is a Galaxy Note 10.1 or the Nexus 10 (out on the 13th). Both are leagues ahead of the iPad and cheaper.

parks on the thread... Am thinking of upgrading, not having crash problems, I haven't upgraded the IOs, it's still running on the original IOS, but you can't get many apps for it now. I don't really need a new one as I mostly use it for surfing, I guess I would need a new one if iplayer stopped working on it though.

Well, I've gone and done it, ordered a new retina iPad from John Lewis. Have sold the Nexus 7, and an old iPod Touch to help pay for it.

Just need to sell my first gen iPad now. Whistling Waves, pm me if serious about wanting to buy, will put it on the market otherwise. It's a 32gb 3G model.

I did like the look of the Samsung Note but was put off Android by the Nexus 7.

It's Safari that crashes more than anything else on mine, Elegantly as I mainly use it for browsing too.

DH is getting a Note 10.1 for Christmas, so will see how that is but I was underwhelmed by my old Android phone.

I think I may keep this one running on the antique IOS and just see how it goes, Safari doesn't crash for me at the moment. I'm not particularly taken with the alternatives, Kindle Fire doesn't appeal as the normal Kindle appears to have reliability problems and I hate my Samsung phone so am off all things Samsung.

What reliability problems have you heard with the Kindle? Mine's been nothing but perfect. Also which Samsung phone are you referring to? I hear a lot of people complaining about old Samsung and old Android, but I think you really need to try the newer handsets and Android versions as they are light years ahead of Apple right now!
