Is there any way to assign a kindle app or device to amazon.co.jp when we are living in the UK?

We have an amazon.co.jp account, registered to a Japanese address and with a Japanese payment card, but live in the UK.

DH also has an amazon.co.uk?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 account. Trying to register his new kindle app, it has defaulted to the .co.uk account and won't recognise the .co.jp one (registered with different email addresses). Is there any way we could register to the Japanese account? Would it make any difference if he bought a dedicated kindle device? What about if he ordered one of the Japanese market devices that have just been released and had it sent here?

DH is desperate to get hold of books in his mother tongue! I really feel for him - I would have taken leave of my senses a long time ago if I had the same difficulties getting hold of books!

Ps, I do understand why it defaults to the uk account...just wondering if there were any ways round it.

I believe you would need to buy a Japanese Kindle as they don't work cross region. For the same reason, I can't hook my UK Kindle up to the US site to take advantage of their cheaper offers.

you need an address in the relevant country. I have a kindle in Ireland that is meant to be registered to the us site, but I have it registered to the uk site instead, by having a uk address to borrow.

Thanks both - we seem to have got round it by loading up the Japanese kindle app via their iTunes (he has an account).
