I put some photos on my data drive can anyone help me recover them?

I have a Vista drive and a Data drive. I didn't know the difference so one day when the Vista drive was full, I thought I'd put some photos onto the other drive (the Data drive). Now every time I try to access them my laptop crashes but I can see that at least some of them are still there after my initial meddling. I would really like them as they contain photos of my newborn ds!

Please can anyone help? I'm not sure where to start with getting them back. Have tried copy and paste but that's not working...
