Windows help and support is being anything but...

The windows help and support box keeps appearing on my monitor. I can close it but as soon as I open a doc it wants to help me with word. As soon as I attempt to open a webpage, up it comes again, topic not found. I wasn't looking for a topic! Also when I first switch the computer on it tells me it wasn't shut down properly (it was!) and gives me options I don't understand.

If anyone's got any bright ideas (have tried system restore) I'd be more than grateful.

Have you someone living nearby who can help (ie avoid a PC shop so it costs you 'a favour' or nothing) ?

It sounds as if you have some malware (nasty software) causing this, and I'd recommend using an anti-virus such as > AVG Free <

If you are currently using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, that might be part of the problem, as there can be 'BHO's (so-called Browser Helper Objects) which are sometimes the cause of nasty effects (and may be difficult to remove), so you might want to download > the Firefox browser < to use until a solution is found.

(Of course there's no guarantee that a BHO is causing your problems, but if you have either Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer (the file manager) then any 'bad' BHOs cannot be stopped or removed, because loading the Microsoft browser ('explorer') automatically loads these BHOs and keeps them in memory.

Other suggestions found by Googling "windows help support keeps popping up":

1. Check the F1 key isn't stuck
2. Run anti-spyware tools (e.g. MalwareBytes and SpyBot Search and destroy)
3. You can disable Help & Support in Control panel - Administrative tools - Services.
