Nintendo Wii - what do I need for a 7yo boy?

He has been harping after one for years now and it is his birthday in two weeks so I am going to get one.

What do I need? He wants Mario Kart, so have found Wii with that included, and the steering wheel.

What other games and accessories can I suggest for Grannies and relatives to buy?

this package is offered with extra wheel and remote for £149

Does he need two wheels? Can he play against someone else?

Does it have a nunchuck included (one of these), as some of the games need one to play? I only have girls (but one of them is 7) and the Wii works best with active games (Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort) - 5-yo DD2 can whup my ass at bowling and frisbee!

Yes, he can play against someone else, so an extra wheel is useful (not that DH and I wait till the DCs are in bed, and race each other, oh no)
(and fall out when we lose, definitely not)
(oh wait, that last one's just me Blush)

Ok, have added nunchuck.

What about the motion plus thingy? I need that too, don't I?

And I need two remotes?

You only need the motion plus if a game specifically requires it. The game will tell you.

Yes, we added an extra remote and 2 nunchucks, so the DDs could play against each other. They come with Motion Plus as standard now, I think (have scrutinised your link, and think that's a MotionPlus remote with it).

And not long afterwards, we also bought rechargeable batteries and a charger too Grin though you can get a stand for charging the remotes

The Sports Resort package has a motion plus included, so I guess that it is necessary for that game. It says that the movements are more accurate with it.

Aha, you are right. It is a remote plus, which is basically the remote with the plus accessory already included, so I don't need to order that separately.

This is all very helpful. Am getting so excited at the though of his happy wee face on his birthday.

You don't need plastic wheels.

You do need Kirby, Zelda, Smash Bros and Zack & Wiki tho.
