Skype and web cams

Hi

My boss has decided that he wants me to set up skype with a web cam in my office.

Bearing in mind this needs to be done with the minimum of funds, can anyone enlighten me? I can use a computer but have no experience of skype and have never used a web cam.

It will be used for meetings via skype.

I will have no technical person to install, it will be just me.

Don't need a technical person. All you need is the webcam, a microphone and a headset if you don't want the whole world to listen in.

Download skype and install. Follow the instructions, it's free and easy to do video calls.

Buy any web cam, really. They are much the muchness. My mum bought one for about £10 that works just fine. Hers has a built in microphone.

skype is easy and free to install, go to the website, click on get skype, then windows or mac depending on what you're using, and follow the rest of the instructions. once it's installed, there's a sound test facility to do which checks your computer has a mike.

for the webcam part, if the computer doesn't have one already, you will need to buy one. not idea how much they are, but shouldn't be too pricey. it will come with instructions as to how to attach it and software to load which runs it. hth!

Have ordered one from Tesco with a microphone just in case the laptop doesn't have one.

Can I ask: does any headset do, or do you need a special one? Can I use a set that came with my phone, for instance, and just plug it into the headphone socket of my computer?

Any headset will do. One with the mic attached would be handiest but not necessary.
