Other plants aren't susceptible to lupin aphid, so they shouldn't cause any damage there. You're right that ladybirds and so on don't go for these, and picking them off by hand is probably not going to be easy with a large infestion. If you wanted to try something less damaging than pesticides on them, you could make up a strong washing-up liquid/water solution and spray them twice a day for a couple of days and see if that helps. Otherwise the only answer is chemicals.
