What colour fence paint?

Hi guys it’s been a while, but I’m back again for some advise. I’m currently and have been for sometime deliberating what colour to paint my front and back garden fences. Currently it’s a dark brown, which I painted last year but I’m not entirely convinced I like it, previously it was a lovey reddish colour not too bright left by my neighbor but as I wasn’t sure which red, I just abandoned the idea as I’ve seen some really bright reds which I’m not keen on. Having read a number of online blogs my understanding is that dark colours drop into the background and set off the plants. An alternative colour I have been thinking of is black, I really do like this as an idea and I have a fairly decent size garden not too big but definitely not small. My fences are really low and not the nicest of fences so I intend on changing them in the near future but in the interim I would like to spruce them up. I have light brick walls the kinda of yellow tone so want to complement the colour fence with the walls. Oh and my garden is south facing. Any ideas welcome.

I give the same answer for any and all paint questions, inside and out: white. :)

We always use Cuprinol Urban Slate. Not quite black. As name suggests a very dark grey.

Any time I experiment with lighter or brighter colours I regret it.

White with a slight tinge of grey/green. Get colourful clematis up it. Gorgeous

I second Cuprinol urban slate. Looks great with foliage against it - the dark grey makes the green 'pop'

Hello all thank you for your responses thus far,

@cakeandchampagne & Billyeyelash

I have thought of white but have been scared of how quickly dirt might show up. I may have to reconsider again and apply to the front of house as It’s a smaller fence hence less effort to retouch 🙃I also think this will look nice against the brick work. Thanks.

@Neolara @DamsonDress so glad you both have recommended black and have used this yourselves I’m particular glad at the suggestion of Urban Slate as this was the exact colour I was contemplating for black as I’ve seen a few positive reviews. I have been slightly worried that just black could look a little harsh against my brick work. Thanks both.

Oh @Neolara can you recall what black you use? And brand? Thanks.

@TiddleTaddleTat. Looks like Urban slate it is and a big possible white for the front of house. 😀

Thanks for your input.

It was called Barnjacket paint and was recommended by our landscape gardeners.

Black is too harsh, but any dark grey makes plants' colours leap. Also, it makes the garden look bigger.

I'm in Australia, so my recommendations for specific paints won't be applicable.

Hi @etht, all the way from Australia.. fabulous!

Re: harshness of black. That was also my concern but I am now decided upon urban slate for my back garden which is like a very dark grey verging on black.

During this critical time with Covid-19, my garden will have to be my project and all other DIY projects I’ve been putting on hold due to work commitments. You tube will be my new best friend.

Please stay safe everyone. 🙃
