That looks too young to have a TPO. Council can advise. If it is a silver birch please keep it - they are beautiful

It really depends on where you are. I live in an area where every single tree (even a tiny sapling) is technically covered by a blanket TPO.

But silver birches are fast growing, short lived, shallow rooted, low value trees in general.

It's a sapling silver birch.
Doesn't have big roots so not usually a problem.That one is so small that you should probably dig it out.
They are nice trees though.

I agree with Silver Birch. If it is on a new build estate then it may well be protected. Councils can stipulate tree planting as part of the development permission.

Silver birch I think. When our properties were built the builders put one of these in every front garden. Years down the line they've all gone. Not for small front gardens for sure

Bark would suggest silver birch. It won't necessarily outgrow its spot - very popular at the moment is Betula utilis x jaquemontii which is slower growing and has whiter bark. The food thing about them is they have relatively sparse foliage so don't cast so dense a shade as some other trees.

Unlikely to have a TPO - they don't even look at trees until the trunk is 75mm at a height of 150cm above ground, and then only if someone has brought it to their attention. But may well be covered under a covenant in your house deeds. Are you wanting to get rid of it, or do you like it and are worried that someone else might want to get rid of it?
