Would I be mad to paint the shed blue?

Hello,

I've name changed for this as my photo is 100% outing, but I'd appreciate wisdom from people with a better sense of gardens, space and colour than I have.

We've recently had the garden revamped and have a new shed arriving shortly which we'd like to paint a colour rather than keep brown so we don't have a hulking great brown lump in the corner.

We were tending toward Cuprinol Fresh Rosemary which we felt would blend into the background (within reason, obviously the shed would still be there!) but a bit left field are now wondering about Cornflower blue as as cheerful and not too dark colour. Is this a ridiculous idea? I've tried a tester and it's not quite as bright on wood as it seems on screen. Does anyone have any experience of similar in a relatively small garden?

We aren't planning to paint the fence or sleepers, but the shed comes in a much darker colour than them. The photo shows pretty much the length of the lawn and we have patio next to the house but the whole garden is only about 10m x 10m.

Would I be mad to paint the shed blue?

I painted my shed lavender, i think it looks fab and actually blends in more than the original colour. Go for it 👍

I don't see why not. My fences are painted a light sea green, which I love, and my summer house is a darker pine green.

Our next door neighbours shed is a lovely blue.

That seems quite bright to me, I have a friend who painted hers a similar shade, and I do think it makes it really stand out and is a bit tacky.

Personally I'd go for the coastal mist colour or fresh rosemary, much more elegant and less tacky,

Sorry op, some gardens it works in, but yours is quite formal/manicured.

I painted our fence blue back in 1998 with somthing like the Cuprinol ie not fence paint and it had hold out all these years. Consequently didnt want to go with another colour so stuck with the blue for the shed (and have repainted the fence

Ive used Cuprinol Forget me Not, bought last year so dont know of they do the same one. I think it gives a nice bit of brightness especially in winter.

I even ended up buying a bright blue water butt

Sounds nice... But you can also redo it if you decided you hate it. Could you add window boxes or trim or something to the shed to make it a feature?

Thanks everyone, really helpful to hear your opinions. We chickened out of the blue in the end, as although it's a gorgeous colour, we felt it was just a bit too much for a small garden in which we don't really want the shed to be a feature. The shed will be pale green, and I have an old wooden table which will probably end up blue Smile

Our back fence is something called “beach blue”- looks ace. Much nicer than the boring brown/green wood you normally see in gardens. Go for it.

My shed is bright blue, I really like it! We also have lots of blue ceramic pots at the other end of the garden so think it ties nicely.

I painted mine Costal Mist which I loved, but we've moved and it didn't seem to work in this garden so its now one of the cream colours they do.

Would I be mad to paint the shed blue?
