Cutting the grass in hot weather

So my grass hasn't been cut for a while two months and as a result is rather long, probably 1.5 ft. However it is rather green and luscious despite the absence of rain. My neighbour's on the other hand seem to be straw fields.

Should I cut it or should I just leave it to keep it nice and green? The only problem is it's takes a we're going on a bear hunt type stride to wade through it at the moment but I don't go in it that often so it's not a major problem. If I leave it to grow is that detrimental in the long term?

Set the mower as high as you can - sort of three to four inches and trim it as late in the day as you can .....
THen you'll be able to walk on it, and it will have the night to recover from the cut
If you leave it to go too long it will try to put energy into seed rather than dense roots

Thanks @Ta1kinpeace I think it may have already gone to seen as it doesn't look as much like grass anymore but more like wheat that's green and has very small wheat bits

If you can cut it to take the seed heads off it will help
but the lawn "look" to aim for is relaxed and soft rather than tight trimmed

I cut ours on the highest setting on Thursday and it's still green now.

Next door has a lawn service and cuts his grass twice a week, his is brown.

Mine looks like a flat tan carpet.
I've not cut it since we last had rain in early June
but I know that it will recover just fine when the rain comes back

Thanks for your advice I cut it to the level the lawn mower does, it doesn't seem to be adjustable. I left the trimmings on the grass and it seems to be farting ok, not too brown
