Does anyone know what plant this is?

I think it's a succulent...but I have no idea.

It's got a long, lovely stem.

Does anyone know what plant this is?

It looks like a poorly dark purple houseleek tree - Aeonium Arboreum ‘Atropurpureum?

Does anyone know what plant this is?

Great, thanks so much. Yes, it is poorly. Dead in fact. It came away at root. Looking to replace as I really love it.

If that’s what it looks like now it’s not dead. Replant it in really gritty compost. Water it once well and firm it in around the trunk. Leave it and it will grow new roots from the buried stem. Keep it barely damp

Should have said cut stem to about 20cm, and plant with half of that below compost

Agree with what others say, it will root. Succulents like free-draining gritty compost that doesn't get soggy though, and not too much water otherwise they rot. Some of mine go months at a time without watering.
