Do I cut gladioli back after the flowers finish?

Or just leave them, or cut them back later? 😁

Cut off the flowering stem so it can't make seeds, and leave the leaves until they have died then clear them away

Do you have to leave them until the leaves have died off? They look bloody awful. Also, mine ( new bulbs) didn't flower. Lots of huge lovely tall leaves, no flowers. What did I do wrong? Does anybody know please?
