I'm trying to name this unlabelled clematis which was given to me. Here are pics of its first flowers.

There are sooooo many types of clematis. I'm growing quite a few at the moment and this looks a bit like 'Prince Charles' to me.

Have a look on the Ray Evison site or Taylors clematis - you might be able to spot the right variety.

There are a lot of very similar clematis. I usually get mine in the bargain corner at the end of the season and often unnamed! It's obviously a summer flowering one and will flower again on next year's growth, so prune it next spring for flowers next summer.

I've been looking a clematis today, trying to identify what I bought last week! I wonder whether yours is Bagatelle or Carnaby?

Hi ACurlyWurly

Your Clematis is a Clematis Nicolaj Rubtsov.

How far back should I be pruning?

This is the most informative link I could find you. If you need further info though, it's classes as a 'Group 3 Clematis' which is the important info. 😃

In spring it will sprout little greyish shoots I prune back to the strongest set, usually about 10/12 inches from the ground.
