Is it an Ash tree?

I had a large-ish one in the garden last year that we had to chop down, but we have a smaller one coming up now. The large one obviously self seeded all over the place too, because tiny plants have been popping up all over the place.

It goes very red in the Autumn, and loses its leaves in Winter. It has soft, furry stems.

Any ideas? (I hope it's not an Ash because I really love it confused)

It's a Rhus, commonly known as StagsHorn. It produces runners of saplings.
Lovely trees, interesting shapes and colours. I grow one in a very large pot.

I knew it as Shoomac, but after googling the name above it see it should actually be Sumac blush It is a lovely tree but does it ever throw up new shoots!

Ah yes that's it! I loved the oriental-y shape of the big one we used to have, and was really sad to cut it down when we needed to get the loader into the garden. I was starting to worry that I'd got all sentimental about a blinking ash tree! Phew, glad it's something better wink
