Can you ID this plant?

I think this is a tricky one as I'm usually quite good at getting an id via google but I've failed every time I try.

I bought it cheap in a plant sale from a NT garden. It had a tag but it was difficult to read and brought up zero info on google. I had an idea (possibly from the sale?) it was a type of peony but the leaves don't match any peony I've come across.

I think it's Filipendula rubra Venusta, a type of meadosweet

Yes! That's the name I tried typing in but must have misinterpreted and so drew a blank. Thanks, it's not hugely happy where it is. Very hot dry border.

I grow it! Needs deep moist soil and will reach 5ft without support. Fabulous thing

Oh I love these threads, when I see one in active it makes my day.

never have a clue what the plant is, just like the collective wisdom of mn and the pictures of unusual flowers.

sigh.

as you were...

One of the better areas of MN. No bitching here

No bitching? You wait until someone asks about where to position their 3 foot plastic gnome!

Only joking. Gardening is quite possibly the loveliest bit of MN.
