Help my pear tree and mystery weed...

Hello,
Am a total novice gardener, but I do enjoy having a nice garden so am trying to stay on top!
I have two questions,

  1. My pear tree has grown these orange spots on lots of leaves. Does anyone know what it is and why? And the pears aren't looking so good this year, they are a bit speckled.
  2. I have this weed growing all around the bottom on my flower beds, but it's popping up half way around my garden - how do I stop this? I keep pulling it up...

Thanks!

Can't help with the pear tree, but the weed is Geum urbanum, commonly known as Wood Avens. It is a real pest, I have it in my garden, I try to weed most out in the spring, but it's a losing battle!

Don't know about the pear, but the weed is a type of wild geum. It has little yellow flowers on long stalks. The on way I know is to pull them up and pull off any flowers that you see, so they don't set seed if you have not the time to dig them out. Eventually there will be less of them. They do blow in from other gardens.

Pear blight? Or something? I heard someone discussing this at work last week

Fruit will be fine

Pear rust
DH will be proud of me remembering this, he is a gardener, I am not, but sometimes I listen to him. Wink

Thank you all!
My pear rust seems to be all over the tree, so I don't think I'll be taking off all of the leaves!
And I guess I'll just have to keep digging up the weeds.

Can you put weed killer next to plants?
