Alternative to decking?

Hi.

The decking the previous owners of my house put in some really shoddy decking. It is now unsafe and needs replacing.

Is there an alternative to decking? It's quite high and quite big and I can't be bothered with the maintainence. I live in an area close to the sea which can get quite damp in the winter which makes decking slippy.

There must be something else I can install. The doors are too high and garden too low for terracing without some major construction.

Help please!

What about a set of steps and a smaller stone patio? You can do steps in breezeblock and then face with stone for a cheap but attractive result.

I had the same area of decking for about 10 years and it ended up really slimy and slippy, and the grooves in the wood were the perfect habitat for millions of woodlice!

Last year I had my garden redone and cut the decking area back a fair bit to allow more lawn. The area I retained for decking was replaced with a product called lunadeck which is heat treated wood and needs far less maintenance. It costs a bit more but feels much nicer! It's just endured its first winter and although it looks like it needs a coat of something to brighten the colour, it doesn't need 20 hours of pressure washing like the old decking did!

I've also had it laid flat side up so no grooves for dirt to gather

Thanks. I'll look into luna decking.

The decking need to be about 4ft hight to reach the doors. The underfloor vents seem to be under the decking so I don't thing i'd be able to do a stone terrace/patio but that is what I really want .
